Let the Teen have some wins but also make sure you stick to your guns on the Important Issues such as Curfew, Attitude etc. but Brushing their hair is not an argument to have and lose a lot of sleep on.3. Try and give them a Loving but Firm home to live in and welcome their friends (within Reason) if they are happy to bring their friends around and you can interact with them, that’s great. You will know where they are and what they are up to.4. Let them be free sometimes and give them a chance to make you proud and / or disappointed you will get both. Talk frankly with them about Drugs, Sex and Rock ‘n’ Roll. Let them know you made mistakes as a teenager and you expect they will too.5. Make sure they feel you will always be there for them even if you don’t see eye to eye all the time.6. Teens need to be a part of a community and earn self respect by helping around the house even when they don’t want to. They can only belong if they are being part of the community rather than just a person that takes up space in the community.Remember once these years pass they will come back to you with open arms and open Minds. You will always be their Parent and they will always be your Child. We all need to relax sometimes. I’m 45 and my Father still gives me career advice as if I was 16.I tell my Children (when I am Lecturing them) that I remember sitting in their seat and looking at My Father trying to get through the lecture as soon as possible with the minimum of fuss. I look at the results of his lectures now and thank him for caring enough to be a good parent when it would have been easy for both of us to take the easy rout and let the important things slide.It has been said that if your Child grows up to be outstanding that you can only take a small part of the Kudos.
